This pirogue-vivier, carved from a single tree trunk, was unearthed along with 15 other ancient boats during the excavations of the Saint-Georges parking lot in Lyon. This exceptional discovery testifies to the important activity of the nearby port of Sablet. Thanks to its central trap, this dugout canoe was most certainly used to transport and preserve fish caught in the Saône River while it was still alive, until it was sold on the floating markets or not.
