The blacksmith uses different types of tools depending on the nature and size of the object he has to shape or on the stage of its manufacture. Several types of hammers, forging tongs, chisels and pointers are attested in Lacoste. Tailstocks (small iron anvils set in a wooden block) and a hard rock anvil (sandstone) are used as striking supports. Files and punches can be used for finishing and decoration.
