Mule à crevés

Lyon [69] - Musée Gadagne

© Pierre Aubert, musée d'histoire de Lyon - Gadagne

This mule was found uncovered, where during the Renaissance the ditch of a rampart was used as a dumping ground. The incisions called "crevices" that decorate it were very fashionable in the 16th century and allowed to show the precious fabric of the stockings that were worn. It probably belonged to a person of fairly high social standing.
