Production typologically dated between 30 AD and 80, 120 or 140 depending on the authors. This lamp belongs to type V D of the classification of J. Deneauve, equivalent to type II B2 of that of M. Ponsich. Lamps of this type are dated by S. Loeschcke and by M. Menseil to the 2nd and 3rd quarters of the 1st century AD; D. M. Bailey places them between the period of Claudius and that of Hadrian
The paste is fine and beige in color. The dark brown slip shows occasional variations in color. The shape is characterized by an ogee-shaped spout decorated with simple and short scrolls whose upper end is hardly or not at all protruding, a carina marked by a groove, a concave medallion limited by concentric grooves, and finally a handle tapering from the bottom to the top and comprising two longitudinal grooves. The medallion has in its center an overmolded decoration representing a bear running to the right. Located on the bottom, the MIV mark, made before firing, has not been identified.
